  • What is matcha?
Matcha is grown in Japan and comes from the same plant as green tea (the Camellia sinensis plant). It is grown differently and therefor has a different nutrient profile. Tea leaves are harvested and ground up into a fine powder known as matcha. Matcha has a greater amount of caffeine andantioxidants than green tea because the entire leaf is consumed. Our matcha comes from Shizuoka - Japan.
  • How much should I use?
A single serving can range from a quarter teaspoon to 1 teaspoon of powder. We recommend beginning with less and over time experiment with the ratio of Matcha to water.
  • How do I make my fit matcha?
Directions: Mix half a teaspoon or 1 scoop (1g) of Fit Matcha into a small amount of hot water (80 degrees) to brew a matcha shot. Use your brewed matcha shot to make a range of matcha drinks (e.g. top up with hot or cold water, add to milk or pour over ice).
  • How many calories in 1g (half a teaspoon) of matcha?
There are traditionally around 4 calories per 1g (half teaspoon) of matcha.
  • Should my matcha be foamy?
Once you've shaken your matcha in the thermos or prepared your matcha in a cup you may see a foamy green layer on the top of your drink. This is great and means the matcha is good quality. Matcha should foam up if shaken up or whisked (traditionally with a bamboo whisk).
  • Should there be lumps in my drink?
If shaken in the the thermos or mixed properly there should not be any lumps of matcha in your drink. Matcha doesn't 'dissolve' in water. It 'suspends' its self in water, therefore some tea sediment is normal.
  • What are the effects of matcha?
Matcha's steady caffeine release is a great alternative to the caffeine jitters of coffee. Matcha is also rich in fibre so if your system has been slow you may experience more regular digestive movements. Read our BLOG posts for lots more information and articles on matcha.

  • Can I drink matcha while pregnant or nursing?
Different people have different opinions on this so it is best to speak to your doctor about this to see what's right for you.
  • how is fit matcha flavoured?
In order to keep flavoured varieties of matcha as pure as possible we use natural flavouring granules. The flavouring granules used in our blend use maltodextrin to encapsulate the flavours, which are then released when dissolved in hot water. Natural flavourings are basically natural flavouring preparations which have been derived from only natural ingredients and encapsulated in granules which dissolve in water to release the flavour. Fit Matcha is flavoured and packaged in the UK in small batches for freshness.
